The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Thanjavur medical college with indomitable medico-legal experts do around 1800 autopsies in a year. Department with state-of-the-art autopsy hall and museum caters to about 14 districts of the state. We render services to multiple departments of the state viz. Health, Medical education, Police, Judiciary, etc.
In Thanjavur Medical College, medico-legal autopsy services offered through the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology houses dedicated autopsy halls along with 5 autopsy tables. Further sexual offence case examination, age estimation, Prohibition and enforcement wing reports, second opinions for medico-legal reports are carried out through the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology on requests by the stake holders. Thus, we cater the state in deliverance of Justice to the citizens. The faculty members, besides their regular duties, conduct Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs and attend national and international conferences to exchange knowledge on the progress made in different areas of medicine.
