Thanjavur Medical College follows a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. Strict preventive and disciplinary measures are implemented to ensure a safe, secure, and congenial academic environment for all students, particularly first-year MBBS students.

Objective

The objective of the Anti-Ragging system is:

  • To prevent ragging in any form within the college and hostel premises
  • To protect freshers from physical, mental, or emotional harassment
  • To create awareness among students regarding the consequences of ragging
  • To ensure strict action against students involved in ragging activities

Anti-Ragging Committee

An Anti-Ragging Committee has been constituted for the academic year *2025–2026*. The committee includes representatives from:

  • College administration
  • Teaching faculty
  • Hostel wardens
  • Police / legal authorities
  • Parents
  • Student representatives
  • Non-teaching staff

The committee is responsible for monitoring, prevention, enquiry, and disciplinary action related to ragging.

Anti-Ragging Squad

An Anti-Ragging Squad is formed to conduct:

  • Surprise visits to hostels and college premises
  • Continuous monitoring of student interactions
  • Immediate reporting of any suspicious or ragging-related activities

The squad works under the supervision of the Anti-Ragging Committee.

Anti-Ragging Standby Team

A Standby Team is constituted to assist the Anti-Ragging Committee and Squad whenever required. The team is mobilized in case of emergencies, complaints, or during enquiry proceedings.

Anti-Ragging Duty Arrangements

Faculty members are assigned Anti-Ragging Duty on a rotational basis for:

  • First Year hostels (Gents and Ladies)
  • College campus

Hostel Monitoring

Anti-Ragging duty staff are instructed to:

  • Stay in the First Year hostels during assigned duty hours
  • Monitor student activities closely
  • Interact with freshers and ensure their safety
  • Prevent any form of intimidation or harassment

Reporting Mechanism

  • Daily reports are submitted by duty officers
  • Any incident or complaint related to ragging is immediately reported to the Dean
  • Confidentiality of complainants is strictly maintained

Disciplinary Action

Students found guilty of ragging are subjected to strict disciplinary action, which may include:

  • Suspension from classes
  • Withholding of examinations
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Expulsion from the institution
  • Legal action, if required

Awareness & Prevention

  • Anti-ragging awareness is created among students at the beginning of the academic year
  • Students are informed about the consequences of ragging
  • Notices and instructions are displayed prominently in hostels and college premises

Responsibility of Staff

All teaching and non-teaching staff members are instructed to:

  • Remain vigilant
  • Cooperate with the Anti-Ragging Committee
  • Act promptly to prevent and report ragging incidents
