The Department of Medical Gastroenterology was started in the year 1990 as an outpatient unit attached to the department of General Medicine . Then separate department with faculty was started . Since then we are treating Gastrointestinal and Hepato panreatico biliary patients from thecentral (Delta ) districtsof Tamilnadu.

The MD ( General Medcine ) students are regularly attending MGE classes OPDs, assigned topic presentation , and present clinical cases for discussion. We regularly conduct clinical society meetings. We do all kind of GI works from diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (including ERCP, esophageal manometry , Endo USG , EVL , Stricture dilatation , Pneumatic dilatation for achalasia cardia ) at par with international standards . We have been authorized as a liver transplant centre in conjunction with department of SGE.
