The Department of Paediatric Surgery at Raja Mirasdar Hospital specializes in the health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents Our goal is to provide comprehensive, family-centered care that addresses the physical, emotional, and social needs of children and adolescents.

Our department serves as a tertiary referral center for nearby medical colleges and caters to children from Thanjavur and adjoining districts, including Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, and some areas of Trichy district. We particularly serve a significant portion of the population from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, primarily engaged in agriculture.

The Pediatric Outpatient service sees an average of 75 children daily, with numbers surging to 100 during peak seasons. Annually, we attend to approximately 8,000 to 10,000 outpatients and 1100 to 1200 inpatients.

Our department also serves as a training ground for 1 postgraduate student Our primary and specialty care services include:

  • Providing comprehensive care to infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Educating medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals in pediatric Surgery care.
  • Collaborating with other departments and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Implementing evidence-based guidelines and protocols for pediatric surgical care.
  • Providing pediatric surgical emergency and critical care services.

Academic Activities:

College Council (Constitution): Dean as the Chairman and all HODs, Professors and Readers as members. PG committee (Constitution): Dean is the Chairman and vice principal, all HODs of PG degree and Diploma faculty and basic Sciences are members.

Ethical Committee (Constitution): Dean is the Chairman .vice Principal, Superintendents of both hospital, Professors of Medicine, Surgery O&G are members.

Lectures (separately held for postgraduate student) Weekly twice.

Video film Facility available
Others Physicians Conference, Surgeons’ Conference and other special Conference are attended by all postgraduates and Assistant Professor.
