About Us

...

The Department of Pharmacology at Thanjavur Medical College is a core specialty within the medical sciences, focusing on imparting comprehensive knowledge and skills related to drug discovery, development, administration, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and the safe, rational use and prescribing of drugs in clinical practice. This education is provided to healthcare professional students from both medical and paramedical specialties.

Our department is supported by dedicated and passionate faculty who are committed to excellence in teaching. Students benefit from a variety of innovative teaching methodologies, including integrated and team teaching, group discussions, and problem-based learning. Role plays and debates are also employed to enhance student engagement and interest in the subject matter.

In addition to teaching, our faculty serves as mentors for medical and paramedical students, guiding projects such as the ICMR-STS. They are dedicated to fostering a dynamic and evolving scientific environment. Our well-equipped facilities, including state-of-the-art demonstration rooms with high-quality audio-visual aids, research laboratories, and experimental labs, support both teaching and research activities.

The department also contributes its clinical expertise in medication safety and pharmacovigilance services at Thanjavur Medical College, including the reporting of adverse drug reactions. Our faculty members have published research in national and international indexed journals. One of the department’s annual highlights is the organization of a workshop on research methodology, demonstrating our commitment to continuous education and research excellence.
