The Department of Radiation Oncology also called Radiotherapy is a type of cancer treatment. Radiotherapy uses beams of intense energy to kill cancer cells. This treatment uses a large machine called a Linear Accelerator and Telecobalt.

High-Energy beams are aimed from the machine to a precise point on Patient’s body. Radiation treatment that goes inside the body is called Brachytherapy. This is also called a common cancer treatment. Totally 20000 patients treated in Linear accelerator machine and 3000 patients treated in Telecobalt machine per year. And Brachytherapy treatment is given to 200 – 300 Patients per year.

There are 7 Radiation Oncologists are working in our department. Each Radiation Oncologists has specialized training in performing Radiation treatment for people with cancer.
